As part of NLBMDA’s 2015-2017 Strategic Plan, we have developed two safety assessment checklists for use in LBM yards and LBM warehouses. These checklists, built upon the input of our membership and the members of the Environment, Health and Safety Committee, represent best practices for identifying potential hazards that can emerge in these settings. Each checklist is organized around specific areas and as their names suggest, can be used on a monthly basis. The Monthly Safety Assessment for LBM Warehouses includes questions and considerations on housekeeping, miscellaneous safety and environmental items , personal protective equipment, other employee protections, fire extinguishers, flammable and combustible materials, liquid petroleum, storage areas, elevated surfaces and motorized vehicles. The Monthly Safety Assessment for LBM Warehouses includes questions and considerations on housekeeping, miscellaneous safety and environmental items, personal protective equipment, other employee protections, fire extinguishers, flammable and combustible materials, liquid petroleum, storage areas, elevated surfaces and motorized vehicles, including forklifts. These checklists should not be considered a complete set of considerations, and each assessment area includes a place for notes to be made of other considerations as well as other hazards or unsafe activity observed. NLBMDA welcomes your comments and recommendations to enhance the value of these checklists. Please send any comments or questions to frank@dealer.org. OSHA Recordkeeping GuidesAs an outgrowth of our development of the Monthly Safety Assessment checklists for yards and warehouses, participating NLBMDA members observed the importance to have a solid grasp of a business’s recordkeeping requirements, particularly as they relate to exposure to citations and proof of good faith compliance with OSHA regulations. The following resources are derived primarily from OSHA resources. Additional items are anticipated. Please send any suggestions, comments or questions to frank@dealer.org.
NLBMDA OSHA Standards Citation Compliance ToolkitAs part of NLBMDA’s 2015-2017 Strategic Plan, we are building out a Compliance Toolkit based on the most common OSHA Standards cited in the LBM sector. We update this data annually as made available by OSHA. Download the most recent Most Common OSHA Citations in the LBM Sector. The Compliance Toolkit items are based on this data and include the specific section of the applicable OSHA Standard and any relevant interpretations issued by OSHA. These Compliance Toolkit items should not be considered a complete set of considerations relative to managing risks of noncompliance. Nor should these be considered guidance relative to reducing exposure to workplace injury or illness. NLBMDA welcomes your comments and recommendations to enhance the value of these checklists. Please send any comments, recommendations or questions to frank@dealer.org. The top standards cited by OSHA in the LBM sector are (Oct. 2015 – Sept. 2016) - Updated
The list is based on October 2015 to September 2016 data for the NAICS code 4441, Lumber and building material dealers. NAICS 4441 has four distinct subcategories for home centers, hardware stores, lumber yards, and paint centers.
